Need a hand?

Finding somewhere to live comes with a lot of questions.

Whether you're searching for a place, talking to a landlord, arranging a viewing, or getting ready to move in, the Help Center is here to help you know what to do next.

Finding a place

How do I find accommodation?

Start by searching for the kind of place you're looking for and the area around your campus.

Take time to review the listing details, including the location, rent, amenities, and anything else provided by the landlord.

Don't choose based on the photos alone. Make sure the place fits your budget, routine, and needs.

How do I know if a place is right for me?

Think beyond the monthly rent. Consider how far it is from campus, what is included in the rent, the available amenities, the surrounding area, and what your day-to-day life would look like there.

The goal is not simply to find a vacant room. It's to find a place that fits your student life.

Talking to a landlord

How do I contact a landlord?

Use the contact or messaging option available on the listing. A useful first message can include your name, expected move-in date, and the main questions you have.

For example: "Hi, I'm John. I'm interested in this place and I'm looking to move in around [date]. Is it still available, and can I arrange a viewing?"

What should I ask a landlord?

Before making a decision, ask about anything that could affect your stay.

  • Monthly rent and deposit
  • Utilities and other charges
  • Availability
  • Viewing arrangements
  • House rules
  • Move-in date
  • What is included with the room or house

If something is unclear, ask before paying or committing.

Viewings

Should I view a place before moving in?

Whenever possible, yes. A viewing lets you compare what you saw online with the actual property and gives you a chance to ask questions before making a decision.

Pay attention to the condition of the property, access, water, electricity, security, distance from campus, and anything else important to your daily life.

What should I check during a viewing?

Check the room and shared spaces, ask about utilities and house rules, confirm the exact rent, and make sure the location matches what you expected.

Take your time. There is no prize for choosing the first room you see.

Applications and move-in

What happens after I decide on a place?

The next steps depend on the property and landlord. A landlord may ask for information, arrange a viewing, confirm availability, discuss rental terms, and agree on a move-in date.

Read the terms carefully and make sure you understand what you're agreeing to before making any payment.

Can I change or withdraw an application?

If your plans change, contact the landlord as soon as possible. Any deposit, payment, or withdrawal terms depend on the agreement you have with the landlord, so review those terms carefully.

If you're unsure what to do, contact Comrade Kejani support with the relevant listing or application details.

Payments and pricing

What does the rent shown on a listing mean?

It is the advertised rental amount for that property. Before paying, confirm whether there are other costs such as a deposit, utilities, service charges, or any other agreed fees.

What should I do if the amount requested is different from the listing?

Pause and ask for clarification before paying. Compare the amount requested with the listing and the terms discussed with the landlord.

If something does not match or you need help understanding the difference, contact support.

Staying safe

What should I do before paying?

Make sure you understand what you're paying for and who you're paying. Whenever possible, view the property, confirm the rental terms, and keep records of important communication and payments.

Never feel pressured to send money simply because a listing or landlord says a decision is urgent.

What if something feels wrong?

Trust your instincts. If the property, communication, payment request, or rental terms do not look right, stop and ask questions before continuing.

You can contact Comrade Kejani support and share the listing and any relevant messages or evidence. For immediate danger or an emergency, contact the appropriate local emergency service first.
