Rental Applications & Move-In

Found a place you like? Here's what comes next.

Finding the right place is only the beginning.

Before you apply, take a moment to understand the rent, deposit, rental terms, and move-in arrangements. A few clear questions now can save you a lot of confusion later.

Before you apply

Make sure you understand what you're agreeing to.

Check:

  • Monthly rent and deposit
  • Utilities and other charges
  • Lease or rental terms
  • Availability and expected move-in date
  • Any requirements from the landlord
  • What is included with the property

Something unclear? Ask the landlord before submitting your application.

What happens after you apply?

Every landlord may handle applications differently.

They may review your information, confirm that the property is still available, discuss the rental terms, arrange a viewing, or agree on a move-in date.

Ask what the next step is and when you should expect to hear back.

You should never have to guess what happens next.

Need to change your plans?

Housing decisions can change.

Maybe your move-in date changed. Maybe you found another place. Maybe the terms are no longer right for you.

Contact the landlord as soon as possible and clearly explain what has changed.

Keep a written record of any agreement about changing or withdrawing an application. Any deposit, payment, or withdrawal conditions depend on the rental terms agreed with the landlord.

Before you move in

Before collecting the keys, confirm the important details one more time.

Make sure you know:

  • Where and when you will collect the keys
  • How much you need to pay and when
  • What the deposit covers
  • When your tenancy begins
  • Which utilities or services are included
  • Any house rules or other agreed conditions

If possible, make sure the property matches what you understood from the listing and your conversations with the landlord.

Something doesn't match?

Don't ignore it.

If the rent, property, payment request, or move-in arrangements differ from what you were told, pause and ask questions before continuing.

Contact the landlord first, and contact Comrade Kejani support when you need help understanding an issue or reporting a concern.
